Aluminium Alloy Insulation Hangers

TECHNICAL DATA (03/04)

SELF ADHESIVE INSULATION HANGERS

General Description:

Self-adhesive hangers ensure high quality fixing of insulation on smooth surfaces such as air ducts, attenuators, chambers and enclosures. Secure fixing is ensured by the high quality of the acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive and fastening clips.

Self-adhesive hangers are also used for the temporary fixing of insulation between metal cladding sheets. For the permanent fixing of insulation to cladding materials, additional support is necessary (see below).

Application Instructions:

1. Read the “Safety Information” section below before starting work.

2. Self-adhesive hangers should be stored in a dry warehouse between 15°C and 25°C. They should be applied at temperatures of between 10°C and 25°C and ideally between 15°C and 25°C.

3. Surfaces should be clean and dry, free of dust, grease, oil and any other loose matter. If the surface is unusual, embossed, ribbed, painted or powder coated, and has not previously been used with this type of self-adhesive hangers, it is recommended that several hangers be applied and left for several days if possible to assess compatibility of the materials.

4. Remove the protective release paper taking care not to touch the adhesive surface. Place the hanger in the required position and press the hanger firmly into position against the surface to be insulated (in cold conditions, store the hangers at room temperature for 24 hours before use).

5. Insulation can be impaled immediately and firmly locked using the the self-locking washers provided (dome side out) Do not unnecessarily compress the insulation. As maximum bond strength is achieved after 24 hours, however, a delay in impaling the insulation is ideal. In any case, hangers must always be fixed to the surface, before impaling the insulation on the hanger.

6. Trim off surplus pin or bend over as required.

CAUTION:
Self-adhesive hangers are widely used for the short-term fixing of insulation in double skin cladding applications, i.e. to fix the insulation in place until the second sheet is fitted (which also gives support to the insulation). Whilst the high quality acrylic adhesive used on the hanger is exceptionally versatile, test results and specifications are based on clean, smooth, uncoated steel. Adhesion is also excellent with the vast majority of coated materials. The variety of textures, paints and coatings used on cladding sheets, however, means that adhesion is impossible to guarantee in advance and must be verified by the user.

Self-adhesive hangers are not recommended for permanent fixing of insulation to cladding or metal sidings where the covering sheet does not also support the insulation. As well as the problem of surface variation mentioned above, this application has the possibility of solar-gain temperatures of as much as 90°C. In this case additional non-adhesive fixing would be required and / or perforated hangers can be used with separate adhesive.

Safety Information:
Keep away from children. Read the materials safety data sheet carefully prior to use. The hanger pin tips have to be sharp in order to penetrate insulation slabs. The point could cause injury if handled carelessly. Warning should be given to all staff that any hangers dropped onto the floor should be removed at once, as the pin could penetrate footwear if stepped on. Use strong gloves which can effectively prevent injury from the points of the pins. Take great care handling the boxes before opening, as mishandling or dropping the boxes can cause pins to penetrate the box. Do not leave unused pins, damaged pins, dropped washers or pieces of release paper where they may cause falls or other injury. Areas where hangers are being applied should be protected and warnings placed.
