56LM Low Modulus Silicone

DESCRIPTION:

Webbseal 56LM silicone is a premium quality low modulus, neutral curing silicone sealant. It cures with atmospheric moisture to form a permanently flexible, highly elastic, durable, rubber seal with excellent adhesion to most construction materials, without need to prime. Webbseal 56LM accommodates movement without stressing the bond line.

TYPICAL USES:

Webbseal 56LM is suitable for high movement applications such as expansion joints in brickwork and facade cladding, curtain walling, perimeter sealing of door and window frames. Being chemically neutral, the sealant is non-corrosive and is compatible with most construction materials.

STORAGE:

Store between +5 dg C and +25 dg C in dry conditions in original packaging. Shelf life approximately 12 months.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Priming is not required with most construction materials. Please contact our technical department for advice.

All surfaces must be clean and free from dust and any other contamination. All surface treatments and protective coatings should be removed. If necessary, clean surfaces with a suitable non-oily solvent. Any previously applied sealant must be mechanically removed.

Joint width and depth should not be less than 3 mm. For joint widths of 6 mm or more, the joint should be half the joint width. Deep joint should be filled with an approved material such as Alfas Bond foam. In movement joints, use closed cell polyethylene backer rod to prevent three sided adhesion. If required, apply masking tape to prevent contamination of adjacent surfaces.

APPLICATION:

Cut off the end of the cartridge thread with a sharp knife, avoiding damage to the thread. Cut the nozzle to desired size and angle and screw onto the cartridge. Fit the cartridge into the application gun and apply the sealant to the prepared joint using even pressure on the gun trigger. Ensure good contact to the joint surfaces by tooling the sealant with a spatula or knife. Remove any masking tape immediately after tooling the sealant, before a surface skin has formed. The sealant will be tack free in approximately 30 - 120 minutes and will be fully cured within 1 - 5 days depending on the joint depth, humidity and ambient temperature.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:

Webbseal 56LM is resistant to normal cleaners and will tolerate short term exposure to dilute alkaline solutions. Contact with oils, fats, glycols and fuel oils may cause some softening and swelling, both of which are reversible.

LIMITATIONS:

May be stained in direct contact with bitumen or asphalt.
Test for compatibility with marble.
Do not apply to surfaces in direct contact with food (use Webbseal 38 translucent).
Not recommended for fixing mirrors (use Webbseal mirror adhesive).
Do not use in submerged joints.
Do not use for the construction for aquaria (use Rhodorsil Aquarium)

The user is advised to conduct tests to determine the suitability of the product for the intended application.
