Introduction:
Croda black bituminous paint provides a weather protective and waterproofing coat for ferrous metal surfaces such as pipes, gutters, structural steelwork, corrugated iron sheets etc. It is also listed by the UK water fitting bye law scheme (UK wfbs). It should not be used over tar-based products or where exposed surface can rise above temperatures of 70 deg C.
Porus surfaces such as concrete should initially be primed with a solution of 8 parts bituminous paint to 1 part white spirit
Application:
Croda black bituminous paint can be applied to the dry, prepared surface by soft bristle brush, spray or roller. A minimum of 2 full coats should be applied allowing thorough drying between coats.
Coverage and drying:
Coverage depends on the porosity of the surface being treated however, guideline figures are as follows:-
| Porous surfaces |
3 - 5 sqm/litre |
| Metal surfaces |
8 - 10 sqm/litre |
Drying time of the film depends on weather conditions and film thickness. Heavy applications will result in extended drying times. However, normally surfaces are touch dry in 3 - 4 hours and can be over coated after 48 hours.
Cleaning:
All tools should be cleaned immediately after use with spirit.
Shelf life and storage:
After use replace lid and shake to ensure an airtight seal. Shelf life is indefinite if container is kept sealed and is stored in a dry area at temperatures between 8 dg C and 25 dg C. Further information from Croda hydrocarbons Health and Safety info sheet HS/PD039.
